With the continuous improvement of global environmental protection awareness and the implementation of the national "dual carbon" development strategy, the shipping industry faces increasingly stringent demands for green, low-carbon, and environmentally friendly operations. The actions of advancing the development and utilization of clean energy in port areas, and actively constructing zero-carbon ports, vigorously exploring research on new energy conversion and storage technologies, deeply mining new technologies, achievements, and scenarios in new energy applications, and accelerating the transformation of on-site applications into technological innovations constitute pivotal measures in building smart and green ports.

Dongfang Electronics Corporation has dedicated itself to the high-voltage shore power sector for many years, achieving routine operation through technological innovation at multiple ports including the Port of Yantai (Yantai, Penglai, Longkou), Port of Weihai, Weifang Sendamei Port, Zhangzhou Port, SDIC Huanghua Port, Ningbo Port, among others.

The advantages of high-voltage shore power technology are mainly reflected in the following aspects:

1. High efficiency: high-voltage shore power can reduce the loss during power transmission and improve energy efficiency;

2. Significant energy saving: by utilizing shore power while berthed, ships can drastically cut fuel consumption for auxiliary generator operation, thereby reducing operational costs. It's estimated that operating costs drop to just 30% of those when burning oil;

3. Strong environmental benefits: shore power significantly reduces emissions of pollutants such as sulfur dioxide, carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides during port stays, improving the ambient air quality.

Taking Shandong's ports as an example, in the first quarter, shore power connection reached over 6 million kilowatt-hours, a 37% increase year-on-year, leading to a reduction of 3,600 tons of CO2 emissions, saving 1,200 tons of fuel, cutting 14 tons of sulfur dioxide emissions, and decreasing nitrogen oxide emissions by 67 tons.

In addition to technical support, to effectively promote the standardized use of shore power facilities and ensure the quality and safety of power supply for both ports and vessels, Dongfang Electronics Corporation also offers technical training services to port equipment maintenance personnel.

Recently, shore power technology experts from Dongfang Electronics Corporation conducted a training session for Weihai Port’s equipment maintenance staff, focusing on key points to note when using shore power equipment. This included inspections required before connecting shore power, instructions on handling simple malfunctions during operation, and emphasized potential difficulties and unexpected situations that may arise during shore power operations. The training underscored the importance of adhering to operational norms, ensuring the safe and efficient usage of shore power. This initiative further bolsters the normalized application of high-voltage shore power at Weihai Port, enhancing the port's operational efficiency and environmental standards.
